Is Instagram down? On Tuesday, social media giants Facebook and Instagram experienced widespread outages, affecting hundreds of thousands of users worldwide, according to data from outage tracking website Downdetector.com.
.The disruptions commenced around 10:00 am ET, with over 300,000 reports of outages for Facebook and approximately 40,000 reports for Instagram, signaling a significant impact on the platforms’ user base.
In response to the outage, Meta spokesperson Andy Stone acknowledged the issue, stating, “We’re aware people are having trouble accessing our services. We are working on this now,” in a post on X social media.
.The outage extended beyond Facebook and Instagram, as Meta’s status dashboard revealed issues with the application programming interface (API) for WhatsApp Business. Downdetector registered around 200 reports of outages for WhatsApp, further compounding the disruption for users relying on Meta-owned platforms for communication.
The outage quickly became one of the top trending topics on X, formerly known as Twitter, with numerous users reporting sudden logouts from Meta-owned social media platforms, adding to the frustration experienced by those impacted by the downtime.
